FGCU Invites Public, Media to Free Screenings of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival Feb. 17-19

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public and media to free screenings of selected films and documentaries from Human Rights Watch's International Film Festival, Thursday, Feb. 17 through Saturday, Feb. 19 in Reed Hall.

The event opens 6 p.m. Thursday with films and discussions about the varied roles that law enforcement agencies play in relation to human rights, including representatives from the Collier County Sheriff's Department who will speak on human trafficking.

At 5 p.m. Friday, FGCU associate professor of political science Richard Coughlin, an expert on international affairs, speaks about human rights. Friday's events focus on the stories of individual and community struggles for human recognition in the face of dehumanizing legislations, institutions and ideologies.

Saturday, the American Red Cross and the Southwest Florida Holocaust Museum make presentations alongside a full slate of showings. Events begin at 1 p.m.
