FGCU Announces March 15 Deadline for Students to Apply for $650,000 in Scholarships to be Awarded in 2005-2006

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University and the FGCU Foundation Inc. invite current, transfer and prospective students to apply online by Tuesday, March 15 for $650,000 in scholarships to be awarded for the 2005-2006 academic year.

"Only those students who complete the application by March 15 will be considered for Foundation scholarships," senior director of Advancement Judie Cassidy said.

"This is a 10-minute application that asks questions about the student's goals and challenges. One need not be in dire straits or a straight-A student to receive these scholarships. Some are based on residency alone, some on major, some on personal characteristics of the students," Cassidy said.

Students who received a Foundation scholarship in academic year 2004-2005 must re-apply to be considered for 2005-2006.

Last year, the FGCU Foundation awarded 348 scholarships totaling more than $368,000.

Current and prospective students can view a list of available scholarships at http://www.fgcu.edu/foundation/s.asp .

The online application can be completed at or visit the FGCU homepage at www.fgcu.edu and click on the "FGCU Scholarships" graphic on the left side of the page.

In addition, students may apply online for need-based grants or loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: www.fafsa.ed.gov .
