FGCU Invites Public to Attend Southeast United States HR Games Saturday
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to attend the Southeast United States Region II Human Resource Games Saturday, April 2 in Reed Hall, to view a one-day series of "Jeopardy" game show style matches between teams of up to three undergraduates from various colleges and universities.
Questions asked in the matches are divided into categories similar to those used in the Professional in Human Resources, or PHR, certification examination. Rounds begin at 9:30 a.m. The semi-final round is at 4 p.m. and the championship round is at 5 p.m. A dinner and awards ceremony for participants is 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Select in Fort Myers.
More than 50 volunteers from throughout Southwest Florida help manage the event including representatives from financial supporters HR Collier, the Human Resource Management Association of Southwest Florida and the Charlotte County Human Resource Association. Participating schools include the University of Tennessee, The George Washington University, North Carolina State University and Virginia Commonwealth University. FGCU has two teams competing under the guidance of SHRM student chapter advisor Jerry Shoenfeld, chair of the FGCU Department of Management and Marketing. FGCU chapter president is student Megan Adkinson and chair of the HR Games Committee is student Angela Sabo.
The HR Games bring together professional chapter volunteers, students, and student chapter advisors in a meaningful way. The effort it takes to plan and conduct the games is worthwhile and beneficial to both the professional members as well as the students. The volunteers conducting the games get a refresher course in the body of knowledge required of a human resource professional as they listen to the students answer questions. The students receive an opportunity to network with other students and showcase their knowledge to HR practitioners.
The winning team from the Southeast United States regional competition competes against other regional champions at the SHRM's 57th Annual Conference in June in San Diego. Over 5,000 human resource management professionals from around the world attend the conference.
