FGCU Offers Edged Weapon Awareness Seminar

FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Weapons and Equipment Research Institute invites criminal justice professionals and students to attend an Edged Weapon Awareness and Spontaneous Response training seminar, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, May 31 and June 1 at the San Carlos Fire Department to learn about edged weapons.

The course introduces participants to the dangers of edged weapons, the history of knife attacks on law enforcement and practical training scenarios.

The course is both educational and practical for individuals interested in defensive tactics training, edged weapons or martial arts.

The first day is basic instruction and the second day is advanced instructor-level training open only to participants who have attended the basic course.

Basic instruction registration is $95 for students and $195 for professionals, and the two-day course is $250 for students and $295 for professionals.

The FGCU Weapons and Equipment Research Institute, as part of the Center for Excellence in Public Safety and Law Enforcement, is funded by a grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice.
