FGCU Announces New Florida Engineering Distance Learning Consortium Website
7/29/2005

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the Florida Engineering Education Delivery System has launched a new Website to provide engineering and computer science programs to Florida students any place and any time.

Located at http://www.feedsnet.org/, FEEDS is a consortium of universities within the state of Florida, colleges of engineering and private industry. The consortium allows students to take distance learning classes through any of Florida's universities including undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as several certificate programs.
As a FEEDS Cooperating Center, FGCU facilitates testing and other learning resources. With assistance from FGCU, students may enroll and earn their degree at any of the six Primary Centers including Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, University of Central Florida, University of Florida and University of South Florida. Students pay tuition and fees based at the Primary university.

Disciplines include civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical and ocean engineering, construction and engineering management, engineering technology, and computer science.

FGCU says the online instruction is an exciting, interactive delivery method available to students any time of day, providing students with the ability to schedule their class time around their professional and personal lives, and in the privacy of their own home.

Students may complete some courses with as little as instructional materials and the use of a computer with Internet access. Instructors are accessible to students via telephone, fax, E-mail or the Internet.

"These programs accommodate students with families and job responsibilities and provide very flexible curriculum schedules, while maintaining the highest standards of engineering education," said Mercy Rueda Schott of Florida International University, chair of the State System Operations Committee.

For more information, media representatives should contact FGCU School of Engineering academic advisor and FEEDS coordinator Mark Swearingen at (239) 590-7395 or mswearin@fgcu.edu.
