FGCU Appoints Egiebor to Chair of Environmental, Civil Engineering
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the appointment of Nosa Egiebor to the position of chair of the Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering effective today, FGCU School of Engineering director Susan Blanchard said.
"In addition to being an excellent environmental engineer, Dr. Egiebor is a delightful person with boundless energy," Blanchard said.
"His enthusiasm and knowledge make him just the type of faculty we hope to attract to FGCU's engineering program. I am pleased Dr. Egiebor is joining us."
Egiebor received a bachelor's degree in engineering chemistry from the University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria, a master's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Manchester in Manchester, England, and a doctorate degree in metallurgical engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Prior to FGCU, Egiebor was a professor and coordinator for the environmental engineering program at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala. He served as the program lead for an engineering research program for undergraduates funded by NASA and the Office of Naval Research at Tuskegee.
Egiebor is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and several other reports, publications and papers. He serves as the associate editor for the international journal Developments in Chemical Engineering and Mineral Processing.
Florida Gulf Coast University, in Fort Myers, Fla., is a comprehensive public university offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Opened in the fall of 1997, the FGCU's campus houses 21st century facilities and distance-learning programs.
The School of Engineering, FGCU's newest academic addition to the university, begins admitting students in fall 2005. FGCU plans to build a 40,000-square-foot facility in 2006 for the study of bioengineering, civil engineering and environmental engineering.
