Former FGCU Basketball Players Sign Professional Contracts
FORT MYERS, FL - Former Florida Gulf Coast University men's basketball players Kelvin Coggins and Kevin Martin have become the first players from FGCU to sign professional contracts.
Martin signed a one-year deal to play with the Birmingham Bullets of the British Basketball League while Coggins signed to play with the Gleneagle Lakers in Ireland.
Martin, a 6-foot-10 center, will join former University of Florida guard Brett Nelson on the Bullets. Martin transferred from Wagner College last year and averaged 11.7 points and five rebounds in his only season at FGCU. He also set a single-season record for blocks with 38. The 11-team British Basketball League plays a 40-game schedule starting in September.
Coggins, a 6-4 swingman, averaged 12.1 points per game last year. He will room with former Lynn University star Justin Wingard. Gleneagle competes in the 12-team Super League, the top league in Ireland.
