FGCU Appoints Steven Moore as Director of Public Safety
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the appointment of Steven Moore of Naples to the position of director of Public Safety at FGCU effective August 14. Moore replaces retiring director Bob Harris.
Moore has over 20 years of law enforcement experience with the last seven years serving as the chief of police for the City of Naples.
"After a national search, Steven Moore was clearly the best choice for FGCU," vice president for Administrative Services and Finance Joe Shepard said. "He has the right combination of skills to lead our police department as it responds to our growing student population, faculty, staff and community that the University serves."
"I believe the continued growth of FGCU in the coming years will be an exciting opportunity," Moore said.
"FGCU is fortunate to have the high level of law enforcement leadership and expertise that Steven Moore brings," said Shepard.
Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice in 1982 from the University of Maryland, and Master of Business Administration in 1990 from the University of South Florida.
Moore completed management training courses from the FBI National Academy in 1996.
Moore is the current president of the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs Association. He also serves on various boards, including criminal justice advisory boards at FGCU and Edison College.
