Hosts Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue Sept. 26;
Food, Ethics and Sustainability Focus of Discussion
FORT MYERS, FL - The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public and the FGCU community to the second annual Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Sugden Welcome Center.
Building on last year's Student Dialogue on social justice, the theme of this year's panel discussion is "Food, Ethics, and Sustainability."
The goals of the Student Dialogue are education, awareness-raising, and empowerment linked to the choices people make every day.
"The greening of campuses and cafeterias is making news all over the country. Universities are finding that sustainability is the key to healthy campuses, as well as good business. This means so much more than recycling," Center director and professor of Environmental Education Peter Blaze Corcoran said.
Confirmed panelists for the Student Dialogue include youth advisor to the California Student Sustainability Coalition Tim Galarneau, Vice President of Higher Education for the Humane Society of the United States Rick Clugston, coordinator of Worden Farms Eva Worden, and a representative from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. FGCU graduate student Jessica Solimano moderates the discussion.
The Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue was developed last year to raise awareness among FGCU students, faculty and community members about critical issues in our region.
Intended to spark youth activism and inspire the intellectual climate among the FGCU and Southwest Florida communities, the Student Dialogue initiative fosters an open space for dialogue and student ownership of that dialogue.
The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education works toward realizing a sustainable and peaceful future through scholarship, education, and action.
