FORT MYERS, FL - The Public Schools Enrichment Partnership's Scholars Club at Florida Gulf Coast University presents photo exhibit of the "Million Man March" by local artist Larry Zywica 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29 in the Library at FGCU to highlight Black History Month. The exhibit runs through February.
FGCU Vice President for Student Affairs Mike Rollo offers remarks at 1:30 p.m. "'The Million Man March' event was chosen to emphasize its significance for students who do not know enough information about this historical march," PSEP/Scholars Club executive director Deborah Dahlmanns said.
Zywica was present at the "Million Man March" in 1995, which inspired him to capture the momentum of the march where African-American men from across the country gathered on Washington's National Mall for a massive Million Man March advocating "unity, atonement and brotherhood."
The event is co sponsored by FGCU Library Services.
Scholars Club is a community-backed partnership between public schools and FGCU. An educational and motivational organization, Scholars Club provides assistance and enrichment opportunities to at risk, minority and multicultural students, grades K-16 in Southwest Florida.
