FGCU Music Student Wins the "Grey Perry Young Collegiate Competition"

FORT MYERS, FL - Faith Lanctot, sophomore music major at the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University won the "Grey Perry Young Collegiate Competition" held at the University of Florida in Gainesville on May 12.

The competition, sponsored by the Florida State Music Teachers Association, was open to all undergraduate collegiate pianists in the state of Florida. Lanctot, student of FGCU associate professor of Music Michael Baron, also won the October 2006 Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition for the state of Florida. She placed first against piano students in the state including master's and doctoral students from well established universities in Florida.

"We are once again very proud of Faith Lanctot and the honor she brings to the Bower School of Music. Faith's win is evidence of the quality of teaching in the developing music program at FGCU, and we are proud of the efforts of her teacher, Dr. Baron as well," said founding director of Music Nancy Cobb-Lippens.

Lanctot will perform in the first student junior recital of the Bower School of Music at 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 31 in the Student Union ballroom.
