FGCU Offers Compliance Specialist Graduate Certificate Course
5/30/2007

FORT MYERS, FL - The College of Professional Studies, in collaboration with the Division of Continuing Education, announces a new post-baccalaureate course to become a Compliance Specialist. Classes begin fall 2007.

Compliance programs have become synonymous with responsible corporate governance. The program trains participants in the "process of compliance" that compliance programs follow regardless of industry segment.

The Compliance Specialist works in the organization's compliance program to determine whether business operations act in accordance with laws and rules. The program covers the theory, process and practice of compliance issues.

The Compliance Specialist Graduate Certificate course is a one-year intensive program. Courses offered blend theory and practical guidance for a unique learning experience. The program is a combination of distance learning and intensive weekend sessions (two weekend sessions per course). This enables students to be on campus to attend seminars and workshops with industry and regulatory experts so that theory and practice of compliance operations is integrated into the learning process.

The program requires completion of 15 credit hours of courses. Required courses include Compliance, Ethics and Controls; Regulation of Business Conduct; Interviewing and Investigation; Forensic Financial Investigation; and Regulation of Medical Industry. The program is credentialed by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, or SCCE, and Healthcare Compliance Association, or HCCA. Upon completion of the program, graduates qualify to sit for SCCE and HCCA exams to become Certified Compliance Specialists.

Guest lecturers include FGCU faculty from the Colleges of Professional Studies, Business and Health Professions, complemented by nationally recognized compliance and regulatory professionals.

Compliance is recognized as a growing career field nationwide. Job opportunities exist in hospitals and most other health care organizations, public and private corporations, and not-for-profit organizations such as colleges and universities, law enforcement, and federal, state and local governmental units. Christian and Timbers, a leading executive search firm, last year listed Chief Compliance Officer, or CCO, as the number three "hot job."
