FGCU Launches 10th Anniversary Celebration Aug. 14
FORT MYERS, FL - It's official! Florida Gulf Coast University is 10 years old and launches a yearlong celebration 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14 in Alico Arena. The annual Welcome Back event for faculty and staff is the launch venue for the historic celebration. Interim President Richard Pegnetter welcomes faculty and staff (including more than 50 new faculty) to the new 2007-2008 academic year full of promise as the campus celebrates the University's 10th anniversary.
Founding dean for the Lutgert College of Business, Interim President Pegnetter will set the stage for the occasion as he delivers the state of the University address, featuring historical highlights as well as a vision for this first year of FGCU's second decade of service. The historical video will take viewers down memory lane and introduce newcomers to the dynamic history of this unique public university.
Founding President Roy McTarnaghan joins FGCU in acknowledging as founders 181 current faculty and staff that welcomed 2,584 students to the brand new campus on Aug. 25. Amidst the waving of 10th anniversary pennants, the ceremonial anniversary cake will take center stage.
The internal launch is the precursor to the public event later this fall.
Themed A decade of excellence in higher education, FGCU's anniversary main event is a grand open house for the public to experience the campus. Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, Community Day includes Eagle Expo and Family Weekend. An exciting blend of family entertainment and the university experience, the event features campus and eco tours, live music, historical exhibits, mini lectures, art exhibits, book signings, admissions and scholarship information, water sporting events, and Sesame Street characters.
