Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship at FGCU Continues to Increase
FORT MYERS, FL -Florida Gulf Coast University's Physical Plant and the FGCU Foundation recently received a generous gift from SimplexGrinnell in support of the Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund that will assist students enrolled in environmental studies, civil engineering or environmental engineering in perpetuity.
SimplexGrinnell has been serving the University by installing and maintaining fire alarms (and other related systems) for many years. James Kishish, district general manager and Barbara Thompson, sales representative from SimplexGrinnell presented a $5,000 check to the FGCU Foundation demonstrating their commitment to FGCU students and Physical Plant.
The Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund now exceeds $18,000. The Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund committee awarded freshman Keishla Negron-Acevedo (first student recipient), from Tavernier, Fla. with a scholarship last November.
"The scholarship program is a point of pride for Physical Plant; the financial support of friends from the business community has really made the difference to increase the size of annual scholarship awards to be distributed to students," said Vikki McConnell, assistant director of Finance and Business Operations in Physical Plant.
The Physical Plant department at FGCU provides campus operations and maintenance. The department is actively involved with students, employing over 60 students since 1997, including 25 work study and 12 international students.
