Nelson Marine Construction Company Donates Boat Lifts to
FGCU Norm & Nancy Vester Marine and Environmental Science Research Field Station
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announced today Ben L. Nelson Jr., president of Nelson Marine Construction Company, made a generous and significant gift of two solar powered boat lifts, including installation, to the FGCU Foundation Inc. in support of the FGCU Norm & Nancy Vester Marine and Environmental Science Research Field Station in Bonita Springs.
This donation benefits all FGCU faculty, staff and students who actively pursue marine and environmental science research in Estero Bay. The gift also contributes to the environmental stewardship and sustainability of natural resources in Southwest Florida.
"Over the years, I have done a great deal of work on this site and throughout the region as a marine contractor. I am delighted to be able to give something back to the community by donating these lifts to the University," said Nelson. "I am very proud of the Vesters, the faculty and students at FGCU, and especially proud to have this wonderful facility in Bonita Springs. It is an honor for me to have a chance to be a small part of it, and I hope that our city and FGCU will find many opportunities to partner and create a great relationship that lasts far into the future."
The 10,000 pound solar powered lifts are manufactured by Quality Boat Lifts of Fort Myers, and will have new motors installed by Nelson Marine Construction. The retail value of the two lifts with installation is over $15,000.
"We are grateful for Ben and Lori Nelson's friendship and kindness. We are delighted to see the Nelsons and the wider community support the FGCU Norm & Nancy Vester Marine and Environmental Science Research Field Station with such generosity," said vice president for Advancement Steve Magiera.
