FGCU Invites Media to 2008 New Student Convocation, Aug. 24

WHO FGCU Center for Academic Achievement and Collegiate High School, for the media
WHAT "2008 New Student Convocation" welcoming event for incoming freshmen students, transfer students, and returning students, and their families. FGCU faculty and staff
will be on hand to greet and welcome students and their families.
WHEN 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24
WHERE Alico Arena
WHY Convocation special guest speaker is Ishmael Beah, author of this year's First Year Reading Project, a memoir titled "A long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier." Beah tells a riveting story of being a child soldier in Sierra Leone, and how he struggled to regain his humanity and reenter the world of civilians.
