FGCU Employees Contribute Over $118,000 to Annual Giving Campaign
FORT MYERS, FL - Faculty and staff of Florida Gulf Coast University have donated over $118,000 to the University's Funds for Excellence Campaign. FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw appointed 31 employee ambassadors to promote the campaign, a year-long drive that encourages employees to contribute to FGCU programs and scholarships.
"The generous gifts from our faculty and staff donors demonstrate a personal commitment to the mission of FGCU. The success of this year's Funds for Excellence Campaign for Faculty and Staff could not have been achieved without this strong support, and I am grateful for their participation," said President Bradshaw.
"Ambassadors are asked to educate their peers about participating in the campaign," director of Annual Giving Linda Guerrine added. "They serve as liaisons to the FGCU Foundation and invite their colleagues to give during the annual marketing period. Despite the uncertain state of the economy and the strains it has placed on people's budgets, the faculty and staff rose to the occasion and supported the University with annual gifts and pledges totaling more than $118,000."
Last year, University employees contributed over $115,000, exceeding the campaign goal, to support departments and colleges, scholarships and other initiatives.
"I give to the University because the funds help grow the programs that are so important to the business owners and students in our area," said Karen Royal, executive secretary of the Resort and Hospitality Management Program and campaign ambassador. "Southwest Florida is growing rapidly and there is a great need for skilled people. I feel good being able to contribute in a small way to the programs we offer here at FGCU."
In recent years, the campaign has motivated employees to create endowed funds, including The Advancement Trust Fund, The Diana Nerestant Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, The U.A. Whitaker School of Engineering Excellence in Education Award Endowed Fund, The Physical Plant Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Computing Services Endowed Scholarship Fund.
