FGCU Bower School of Music Presents Michael Baron and Debra Hess in a
Faculty/Artist Recital Nov. 4
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Bower School of Music presents a faculty/artist recital featuring Michael Baron, piano and Debra Hess, organ, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Road SE. The recital will feature works by Bach, Mozart, Liszt and Vaughan Williams among others.
Baron, an award-winning concert pianist, tours Europe and Asia as well as the U.S., and commands a diverse repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary. He received his doctorate in piano performance from The Ohio State University and has studied with Earl Wild in America and Orazio Frugoni in Italy. Baron has taught at universities in Colorado, New York, Wisconsin and Ohio as well as in Italy. He is currently the head of Piano Studies in the Bower School of Music.
Hess has M.F.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida where she studied musicology with David Kushner and organ with Willis Bodine. She has given recitals and served as music director and organist for congregations in Florida, Texas and Missouri, and has presented research papers at regional, national and international conferences. She is currently an associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at FGCU as well is director of music and organist at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers.
