The Art Gallery at FGCU Opens Exhibit of Works by Carl E. Schwartz;
Reception Feb. 19
FORT MYERS, FL - The Art Gallery at Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to an exhibition of works by nationally recognized painter and printmaker Carl E. Schwartz, with an opening reception with the artist, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, in the FGCU Library Gallery. The exhibition runs through March 22, and is free and open to the public.
Schwartz's current body of work focuses on Southwest Florida's tropical plants. He finds all the inspiration he needs by walking out his back door into the lush paradise he has created, full of plants, a water garden and a koi pond. He often invites students to work in his gardens for off-campus classes.
"This exhibition reflects my response to my surroundings," said Schwartz, who taught art full-time at FGCU until last spring when he went into semi-retirement. He continues to teach as an adjunct. "If I lived on the beach, I painted beach scenes. If there was a wonderful, jumbled back of marina or fix-it shop that was nearby, I created ordered, balanced compositions out of the great chaos that those places can present. This body of work is reflective of what has been my changing environment."
The Art Gallery is located inside the Arts Complex on FGCU's main campus. The University is located off Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, east of I-75 and between exits 123 and 128. Parking is available in Lot 7 for gallery visitors; parking passes are available at the parking kiosk at the University's entrance.
