FGCU's Theatre Lab Opens Thornton Wilder's "Our Town"
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Theatre Lab invites the public to the opening of "Our Town," written by Thornton Wilder and directed by Mark Danni, Nov. 4-8, and Nov. 11-15 at the FGCU Arts Complex on campus.
Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m.
In the first act, the author genially outlines the history of Grover's Corners in New Hampshire, and carries the audience into the homes of the Gibbs and Webb families. The story begins at breakfast time and moves through one entire day in the lives of the characters.
The second act concerns the love affair between young George Gibbs and Emily Webb, and thus culminates in a moving wedding scene.
In the third act, the audience is led to the cemetery on the hill, where many of the townspeople are patiently awaiting - not judgment - but greater understanding.
Seating is limited, purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. Tickets may be purchased at the Theatre Lab Box Office.
