FGCU Announces Human Trafficking Awareness Month Events
FORT MYERS, FL - As part of Florida Gulf Coast University and the Lee County Human Trafficking Task Force's continuing effort to educate citizens and professionals about this issue, the following events are scheduled for January. The following events are open to the public at no charge, unless indicated:

Jan. 12: Program by Klaas Kids, 3:45 p.m. to 7 p.m., FGCU Academic Building 5, Room 112.
Jan. 14: Lee County Human Trafficking Task Force Meeting, U.S. Attorney's Office, Federal Court House, 10 a.m., 2110 First Street, 3rd Floor in Fort Myers.
Jan. 20: "Not For Sale" campaign program 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Focus on Slavery in Business: Intervention and Prevention 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Identification of Slavery in Our Backyard and multimedia main event 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., FGCU Student Union ballroom.
Jan. 25: "Next Steps - How You Can Fight Slavery," panels on Volunteer Opportunities in Advocacy, Victim Services, Outreach Education and Prevention, plus exhibits and information from local organizations and networking time, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., FGCU Student Union ballroom.
Jan. 27: The Human Slavery Symposium "Out of the Shadows 2010," (6 CEU's available); registration and continental breakfast 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; local, state, national and federal speakers on the current status of human trafficking in our community, nationally and globally with recommendations for further action 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch on your own noon to12:45 p.m.; reception and networking 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., FGCU Student Union ballroom. Symposium is presented by FGCU Division of Justice and Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs, in Partnership with Lee County Sheriff's Office, Lee County, through funding provided by U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
For all FGCU events, stop at the parking kiosk for a parking permit and directions. Allow time to park.

In honor of Human Trafficking Month, WGCU Public Media has been broadcasting radio shows at noon (90.1 FM) on the subject and will have two TV shows on the PBS station (Comcast Channel 3) 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. On Jan. 11, "BBC World Have Your Say" will be broadcast from Immokalee, featuring local expert at 1 p.m. on 90.1 FM.
