Small Business Development Center Hosts Hurricane Preparedness Panelist Discussion & Expo
July 17 at Sunshine Ace Hardware, Bonita Springs
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in partnership with several governmental agencies, hosts a free Hurricane Preparedness Seminar & Expo 10 a.m., Saturday, July 17 at Sunshine Ace Hardware, located at 9100 Bonita Beach Rd, Bonita Springs.
Officials from Lee County Emergency Operations Center, City of Bonita Springs, WINK-TV, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and Bonita Springs Fire & Rescue will present a one-hour panel presentation starting at 10:30 a.m. with Q&A following. Resource tables with information will be available from American Red Cross, State of Florida Department of Financial Services and other agencies.
Panelists include: WINK-TV Chief Meteorologist Jim Farrell; Bonita Springs City Manager Gary Price; Small Business Administration Marketing & Community Outreach director Althea Harris; a representative of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC); and a representative with the Bonita Springs Fire Department. Moderator for the event is Dan Regelski, executive director of the SBDC.
Also in attendance will be the Southwest Florida Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) team. The Florida Small Business Development Center will bring its Small Business Mobile Assistance Center Bus, which is used to help small businesses during a natural disaster.
"We are very excited to take part in this important event," said Efrain Torres, store manager for the Bonita Springs Sunshine Ace Hardware. "We are stocked and ready for this hurricane season and want our customers and business owners to know that they can purchase many of their hurricane supplies here."
Several other vendors of the hardware store are also taking part by donating giveaways such as a chance to win a Weber Grill valued at $499, and a STIHL-Chain Saw valued at $179. Sunshine is also giving away hurricane preparedness kits to the first 50 seminar attendees with a retail value of $35 per kit. Refreshments provided by Costco.
