WHAT "It's Not All Good: Flamenco-Fusion, Cross-cultural Coalitions and the Art of Raising Consciousne"s” with Guest Lecturer Jorge Perez, associate professor of Spanish at the University of Kansas. Free and open to the public.

WHY Perez explores the cultural and social impact of present-day redefinitions of flamenco, the only Spanish musical style that has entered the circuits of what is known as "World Music." By combining vernacular traditions with African-American beats, the Andalusian band Las Niñas creates hybrid sounds suitable for expressing cultural alliances across national and racial boundaries blending African-American musical idioms with flamenco elements.
