FGCU Foundation Names Alan Korest Foundation Fellow
FORT MYERS, FL - Alan Korest, Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation Board member became a Foundation Fellow at the FGCU Foundation Board of Directors' Dec. 2010 meeting. He joins Fay Biles, Barron Collier III and Ben Hill Griffin, III.
The persons constituting Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation Fellows shall be elected upon the nomination of the Board of Directors of the Foundation and confirmation by the President of Florida Gulf Coast University. Their number shall be limited only by the high standards to be used in their selection to assure that this honor be extended to persons of merit and distinction.
Korest joined the FGCU Foundation Board in 1999. He moved to Naples from Michigan in 1983 after retiring as CEO from the industrial equipment firm he founded in 1958. He is a past member of the City of Naples Planning Advisory Board, former Chairman and of the Moorings Park Board of Directors, and Big Cypress Basin Board. Korest also has served as President of the Forum Club; Councilman and Vice-Mayor of the City of Naples; and as Board Member of Save the Bays, Southwest Heritage, the Collier County Tourist Development Council and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). He presently serves as a Director of Moorings Park, Education Foundation of Collier County, and Searching for Solutions Institute (Imagine Solutions Conference).
He and his late wife, Marilyn Korest, were instrumental in establishing the FGCU Bower School of Music. The school was established in 2006 and named after Marilyn's father,
Edwin H. Bower.
