FGCU's Theatre Lab Opens Agamemnon," Feb. 16
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Theatre Lab invites the public to the opening of "Agamemnon," written by Aeschylus and directed by Barry Cavin, Feb. 16 through Feb. 27 in the Theatre Lab located at the Arts Complex on campus.
Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m.
In this Classical Greek tragedy, Agamemnon murders his own daughter so that the winds will launch his fleet of a thousand ships toward Troy. Upon his victorious return, Clytemnestra, his wife, releases a mother's revenge upon him and his beautiful prize, Cassandra. Newly quenched of her thirst for blood, Clytemnestra believes the matter has been settled, but it is only the beginning. "Agamemnon" is the first of three Greek plays that form "The Oresteia," a tale that traces the idea of justice from bloodlust and revenge to laws and courts.
