FGCU Alumni Form the San Carlos Collective for International Art Venue
FORT MYERS, FL - A group of Florida Gulf Coast University alumni have banded together this year to bring their art to exhibit at the Art Now Fair in Miami Beach, Dec. 1 to Dec. 4.
The San Carlos Collective is a diverse group of eight emerging artists from Fort Myers, connected by friendship, place and ambition and all technically trained at Florida Gulf Coast University.
"Participating in the Art Now Fair is a significant undertaking for the emerging artists, and it is a testament to their talent to be accepted to show during a time when the center of the art world focuses itself in Miami," said Anica Sturdivant, interim director of the Art Galleries at FGCU.
To raise the funds required for participation, the artists have organized sales of their work during Downtown Fort Myers ArtWalk night, and also a preview exhibition and sale at the Sydney Byrne Davis Art Center Friday, Oct. 7 during Art Walk, and Saturday, Oct. 22 during San Carlos Collective Preview of Art Now. The San Carlos Collective needs $8,000 to participate in the Art Now Fair (http://artnowfair.com).
"Although highly individual in style and medium all members share a sense of experimentation and discovery, as well as a desire to react to the traditions of art, whether affirming or drastically negating them."
The San Carlos Collective member artists are: Lauren Baker, Chris Carver, Carrell Courtright, Matthew Engel, Joseph Frantz, Philip Heubek, Jessica Osceola, and Tarra Wood.
