FGCU Hosts Ocean Conservation and Sustainability Dialogue
10/14/2011

FORT MYERS, FL - The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Florida Gulf Coast University hosts its Seventh Annual Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27 in the Student Union Ballroom. The Dialogue is free and open to the public. The Center also invites stakeholders and community members for conversation and snacks outside the Ballroom before the event for a networking session starting at 6 p.m.

The topic is "Ocean Conservation and Sustainability." This year's expert panelists, Vikki Spruill of the Ocean Conservancy in Washington D.C., and Sheila Bowman of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program in California, will explore the complexity of ocean conservation, seafood sustainability, and address the relationship between human activities and the health of our oceans.

The Dialogue is intended to spark youth action and inspire the intellectual climate among FGCU and Southwest Florida communities while fostering an open space for dialogue and individual ownership of that dialogue.

"This event is created by students for students, but I think community members will be especially interested in the national perspectives provided by these speakers on local issues," said Center Director Peter Blaze Corcoran.
