FGCU Hosts "Kristallnacht Remembered" Short Film and Lecture
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Human Rights Studies and FGCU's Hillel present "Kristallnacht Remembered," a short film by Evie Sullivan, Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
Attendees will learn about the infamous "Night of Broken Glass" in November 1938 when Nazis coordinated the first massive attacks against Jews throughout Germany and Austria, and hear from a local survivor of the Viennese pogrom. The event is free and open to the public.
The film features interviews with three Viennese Jews who survived the pogrom in Austria, where all of Viennas synagogues were destroyed and thousands of Jews were arrested and sent to the Dachau concentration camp. The film will be preceded by a brief lecture by Holocaust historian Gerry Melnick and followed by a special guest, Holocaust survivor Ann Jacobson, who lived with her family in Vienna during the pogrom and will share her personal account of the event.
