FGCU Small Business Development Center and SWFL Hispanic Chamber Participate in 6th Annual
International Congress and 1st International Business Expo in Lima, Peru
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's Small Business Development Center and the Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce participated in the 6th annual International Congress and 1st International Business Expo at the University San Martin de Porres in Lima, Peru Oct. 10-13.
Julio Estremera, certified business analyst for Small Business Development Center at FGCU, was the keynote speaker, providing information relative to doing business with the United States. Over 4,000 attended the week-long event. The lecture provided an opportunity to reach out to a country of entrepreneurs eager to learn ways to grow their businesses.
The Southwest Florida delegation included Estremera and the SWFL Hispanic Chamber of Commerce team: Veronica Culbertson, Chamber president and CEO, Veronica Montoya, director of International Affairs, and Silvia Izquierdo, ambassador; and chamber members Rocio Cuellar, owner of Freedom Land Realty, Juliet and Harris Winokur of Winokur Enterprises, Victor Cerna of Water One, and Mirtha Montoya Arguelles, director of Institute for Psychotherapy and Business Training.
The team held individual and group counseling sessions with attendees. These sessions provided insight of the local need of existing business owners to sell their products abroad.
"The opportunity to participate in this international seminar was a result of an invitation by the SWFL Hispanic Chamber of Commerce," said Estremera. "This event was the second of its kind, and based on the overwhelming success, there are future opportunities to conduct and participate in similar events."
The University San Martin de Porres is the only institution of higher education to be distinguished as the Socially Responsible Enterprise for Peru 2021. It is anticipated that alliances will be created to share best practices and collaborate with the SWFL Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in its initiative to build bridges between Southwest Florida and Peruvian businesses.
