FGCU's 29th Commencement Graduates over 1,000 Students Dec. 15 at Alico Arena
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University expects to graduate over 1,000 students during fall commencement exercises 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Alico Arena.
The morning ceremony confers the College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Health Professions and Social Work. Doors open for guests at 8 a.m.
The afternoon ceremony confers the Lutgert College of Business, College of Education and U. A. Whitaker College of Engineering. Doors open for guests at 1 p.m.
Members of the media will gain entry by presenting proper credentials at a designated table marked MEDIA REGISTRATION at the Alico Arena entryway.
NO one is allowed onto the main floor or in the aisles and entranceways to take photos.
Commencement tickets for Dec. 15 are labeled for either a.m. ceremony or p.m. ceremony as appropriate. Guests will not be permitted to use the p.m. tickets for the a.m. ceremony and vice versa.
Tickets will be required of all guests. Participating graduates have been allocated tickets to provide to their guests.
FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw confers bachelor's and master's degrees in the University's five academic colleges: Arts and Sciences, Education, Health Professions and Social Work, Lutgert College of Business and U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering. FGCU has conferred more than 15,000 degrees since fall 1997. The commencement ceremony lasts approximately two and one half hours.
Commencement ceremonies are held twice a year, in May and December. The May commencement is for graduating candidates who have completed or who plan to complete all degree requirements in the spring term. The December ceremony is for graduating candidates who have completed or who plan to complete all degree requirements in the summer or fall semesters. Starting in 2013, there will be summer commencement ceremony in early August for students completing degree requirements in summer.
Alico Arena currently has a policy prohibiting balloons in the arena and will not allow them to be brought into the arena for the commencement ceremony. Additionally, in an effort to provide the most comfortable experience for all participants and guests, we ask that attendees refrain from the use of latex and scented fragrances during the Commencement ceremonies.
