Mission, Goals, & Objectives
I. MISSION OF THE OFFICE OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/ DIVERSITY AFFAIRS
Facilitate compliance with the appropriate laws regarding employment programs
of the University and contribute toward the following commitments of the University:
- develop and maintain a culturally diverse academic community of faculty,
staff and students.
- develop a University Community that encourages students and faculty to
develop a rational understanding of the need to accept and appreciate differences
among people and cultures.
II. GOALS OF THE OFFICE
- provide equal opportunity direction and support for the University
- provide equal opportunity information for planning and decision-making
- provide leadership and facilitate improvements in equal opportunity/diversity
in the University
- establish and maintain partnerships with private and public civil rights
and equal opportunity organizations and agencies.
III. OBJECTIVES
- formulate policies and develop procedures to facilitate or ensure compliance
with equal opportunity, equity and affirmative action regulations.
- disseminate information and conduct equal opportunity training and awareness
sessions for students and employees
- Provide equal opportunity consultation services to employees, supervisors
and university committees.
- Monitor and review compliance of education and employment programs of the
University with equal opportunity, equity and affirmative action regulations.
- Review discrimination complaints, and resolve disputes arising from such
complaints through mediation, investigation and conciliation.
- Administer or monitor administration of programs designed to enhance career
development of members of the protected classes (i.e. Leadership Diversity
Program).
