Affirmative Action Plan
A. Purpose
Affirmative Action at FGCU is intended to reaffirm and restate
the university's continuing commitment to the principles of
equal employment opportunity and affirmative action; to set
forth the efforts being taken by the university and its employees
concerning the provision of employment opportunities; and
to provide for the implementation, self-policing, and measurement
of the achievement attained through a comprehensive affirmative
action program. This plan strengthens and broadens current
affirmative action/equal employment opportunity efforts. Moreover,
by identifying individuals who will be accountable for certain
actions and by monitoring affirmative action efforts, the
plan will assist FGCU to achieve it's objectives.
B. Objectives of the Affirmative Action Plan
1. To establish clear administrative responsibility and accountability
for affirmative action in all categories of employment.
2. To assure equal employment opportunity for all prospective
employees and to assure equal development and advancement
opportunity for all current employees.
3. To increase employment participation of disabled veterans,
person with disabilities, women, older persons and veterans
of Vietnam Era, through hiring or advancement and promotion
in areas where such people are under-represented.
4. To strengthen the internal grievance procedures available
to all people who allege employment discrimination on the
basis of age, handicap, national origin, race, religion, martial
status or sex.
5. To design on-going procedures to identify problem areas.
When problems are found, efforts will be made to address them
in an equitable manner. Efforts will be made to provide necessary
training for administrators regarding their moral and legal
responsibilities in these matters.
6. To establish an internal reporting system which will allow
the university and administrative officers to evaluate progress
toward targeted employment goals. Periodically, the plan will
be revised and updated.
