University Credit: Course Descriptions
Course Requirments
Pre-trip meetings - This
is an educational experience, one which will provide you
with a first-hand look into another world. Prior to leaving
on our adventure to China, you will need to learn more about
the culture and what to expect. This is accomplished through
a series of pre-trip meetings. There will be at several
meetings on campus. Participation in other activities, such
as video viewings, can be in person at scheduled times,
or can be at a distance. Your preparation for and participation
in these pre-trip meetings will be the basis for a portion
of your grade for the course.
Study Tour - You
will be participating in a structured tour, involving meeting
and interacting with high-level government, law, and justice
professionals. In our private meetings, we will have the
opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues with these
leaders. Evening de-briefing sessions will be held to go
over the day's activities and events. Your preparation for
and participation in the structured portions of the tour
will be the basis for a large portion of your grade in the
course.
Journal and Paper - For most of the courses,
while you are in China, you will be required to keep a daily
journal of the trip. The journal must be turned in to the
professor upon completion of the tour. It will be returned
to you at a later date. You will also be required to research
and complete a paper based on a comparative study of an
aspect of China related to the subject you have chosen to
study, and selected in consultation with the professor.
Specific information regarding these requirements will be
available at the start of the semester. The journal and
paper will constitute a portion of your grade in the course.
Criminal Justice Graduate Course
Pre-Trip meetings, Study Tour, and Journal requirements
are the same as for the undergraduate course. The difference
is in the paper or project, which will require more in-depth
analysis appropriate to the graduate level.
History Undergraduate Course
HIS 3955 History Study Abroad
Pre-trip meetings, Study Tour, Journal, and paper requirements
are similar to those for the criminal justice undergraduate
course. The difference is in the reading assignments, project
or paper to be completed for the course. Please see Dr.
Eric Strahorn for specific information on course requirements.
