Art in State Buildings - 2010 ANNOUNCEMENT: Presentation Meeting-- Art in State Buildings Project for the Library Annex
Location: Library's conference room in the Administrative Suite (Lib 224)
Date: Wednesday, November 9, 2011 1:00PM-3:00 PM.
Artist Barbara Cooper from Chicago, IL will make a conference call presentation regarding a potential commissioned artwork for the Library Annex building.
What is Art in State Buildings? "Art in State Buildings" is a State of Florida requirement for each academic building paid for with Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) funds. The requirement is to spend up to 0.5% of the construction cost for each building on public art. Each building’s art is determined by a unique committee for that building and generally includes the President's representative, the architect for the building, a representative of the building faculty, and two other members of the art community in the Fort Myers area. A typical ASB committee reviews the type of project desired for a typical building (exterior sculpture, interior sculpture, interior paintings, etc.) The committee then also reviews the proposals we have received from various artists when we request a “Call to Artists” to see who would be interested in working on a typical ASB project with FGCU. Eventually, the committee selects which artist they want to work with for a particular project. The art work might be something already created by the selected artist, or a piece specifically designed for the project. Current Projects
