FGCU Website Redesign News

The FGCU University Marketing|Communications team has been working with key stakeholders across campus to plan the redesign of public facing sections of the website. The section below provides a summary of important facts that we want you to know, because this transformative scale project. Please contact Jeff Garner in University Marketing and Communications with any questions.

Things You Need To Know: Talking Points To Share
  • iFactory is the design agency that will assist us with the look and feel of the site.

  • Omni Update is the vendor and developer of the content management system (CMS).

  • The web servers will be cloud-based for improved performance and disaster preparedness.

  • We are focused on redesigning these sections using a phased approach: We will maintain the current site using OpenText until we can move sections to the new CMS. Site editors can continue making edits without interruption.

    • Homepage, About, Academics, Admissions, Advancement, Calendar, Campus Life, News, Research - plus ALL top level sections of the college websites. Other sections will follow in phase two and beyond.
  • Phase one is planned for a Summer 2017 launch.
  • We are redesigning the website to strengthen the FGCU brand, make it mobile friendly and fully accessible using ADA 508/WCAG 2 standards.

  • The CMS will be much easier to use than the current system and it will provide capabilities to publish content more efficiently with many drag-and-drop features.

  • Built-in testing tools will help minimize spelling, ADA 508 accessibility, and broken link issues before pages are published to high quality content on every page.

  • A core website redesign team will serve as ambassadors on the project to keep the FGCU campus community informed.

  • In the coming weeks, the website redesign team will contact site editors and department leaders to begin the steps for updating content and preparing to move to the new website.

  • New CMS training resources will be shared with site editors to get a preview of the new software called OU Campus. (OU = Omni Update)
