What is the Family Resource Center?
The Family Resource is a place where Florida Gulf Coast University students, faculty, staff and some families within the community at large, can access affordable early care and education for their dependent infants, toddlers and preschool children. The center serves 40 full-time children - 8 infants, 12 toddlers and 20 preschoolers.

How will my child's care and educational needs be addressed?
Your child's care and educational needs are addressed in an individualized, developmentally appropriate manner in a setting that is nurturing and intellectually stimulating. Children have a wide variety of interesting activities to choose from to promote optimal growth and development in the physical, cognitive, language and social/emotional areas of development. Learning areas include art, block building, reading, writing, large and small motor activities, dramatic play, outdoor play, science, computers and the environment, among others. The philosophy of the early care and education program of the Family Resource Center includes:

  • Each child is a competent and active learner.
  • Early education is based on trusting relationships and collaboration among children and adults.
  • Children construct their own knowledge through active engagement with people and materials.
  • Each child is unique.
  • Curriculum is integrated across all domains including emergent curriculum and projects.
  • Curriculum recognizes the interplay among social-emotional, cognitive and physical growth.
  • The curriculum is child-centered, interesting and dynamic.
  • The curriculum includes all the objectives and activities that ultimately prepare children for school.
  • Ongoing assessment of children's learning and adapting the curriculum accordingly is essential to ensure optimal child progress.
