A Message to International Students

FGCU Welcomes international students to pursue studies in a number of academic majors. We currently have just over 50 international students from 22 countries studying both undergraduate and graduate degrees. International students will find many resources at FGCU beginning with the Admission process. All international students attend an orientation prior to enrolling at the university which is designed to help students adjust to living and studying in the US. The university provides numerous support services for international students to assist them with immigration matters, cross-cultural adjustment, academic or social issues and a "home base" where they will find answers to their needs.

Each year FGCU hosts the International Reception, to welcome our international students, faculty and staff. Its a great opportunity to meet University administrators, faculty, staff and students as well as members from the local community. Throughout the year we have several other events focused on international topics, such as the International Celebration, International Education Week and presentations, social activities and fundraising projects of the International Club.FGCU's international activities also include opportunities for students to study abroad either through one of the FGCU sponsored programs or programs sponsored through other organizations.

The unfortunate Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US have understandably caused all of us, including international students, some concerns about personal safety and immigration matters for students. FGCU responded immediately to all of its international students in offering support with information, discussion sessions and personal advisement in making decisions about continuing their education with us and travel in and out of the US. All of our international students have chosen to remain at the university. We continue to encourage new international students to apply to FGCU and will advise them on any immigration changes that apply to them.
