CHARACTER EDUCATION


"Keep Your Kool"

Grades: Pre K- 1

Students will review healthy habits and learn that in order to be healthy, you also have to have healthy emotions. During this program, students will practice ways to express feelings, meet new people, and help friends who are sad. Students will participate in various fun hands on activities and an interactive puppet show.

Florida Sunshine Standards:  HE.A.1.1, HE.B.1.1, HE.B.2.1, HE.B.3.1, HE.C. 1.1, HE.C.2.1, LA.C.1.1, LA.C.2.1, LA.C.3.1

OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of the program, the student will:

  1. Identify four different emotions
  2. Decuss two ways to control anger
  3. Demonstrate one appropriate way to make new friends

What if Bullies Grow Here?

Grades: 2-5

This highly interactive program seeks to identify and understand the social phenomenon of bullying. Various types of bullying, reasons why people bully, consequences of bullying and identification of potential targets will be discussed. Students will use specific strategies through role plays to deal with a variety of bullying situations with the help of our child size robot, Carlos!  This presentation features exciting movie clips that children will recognize that portray bullying.

  1. Define the term bullying
  2. List four reasons why people might bully
  3. Discuss two ways bullying can be harmful
  4. Demonstrate two strategies to stop bullying

Caught in the "Middle"

Grades: 5-6

Caught in the "Middle" explores social cruelty, consequences of intimidation and the effects of peer influences in the middle school environment. Developing respect for other's differences and strategies for appropriately dealing with intimidating situations will be reviewed. This multimedia program features intimidating scenarios and students will have the opportunit to role play with others.

OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of the program, the student will:

  1. Define the term intimidation
  2. Identify three forms of intimidation
  3. Explain the consequences of intimidation on potential targets
  4. List two strategies to avoid intimidating situations

Stress: Too Much to Handle

Grades: 6-7

Today’s kids are experiencing more stress than ever before. During this interactive presentation, students learn to define stress, recognize the symptoms of stress, discuss the physical, emotional, and behavioral ramifications of stress. Students will have the opportunity to practice strategies to handle the pressure of stress.

OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of the program, the student will:

  1. Define Stress
  2. List two body reactions to stress
  3. List three potential causes of stress
  4. Distinguish between inappropriate and appropriate ways to cope with stress
  5. Discuss three appropriate strategies for stress management

Harassment Hurts

Grades: 8-9

Students will learn to recognize and define sexual harassment, the effects of sexual harassment on the target, the social, emotional and legal ramifications and strategies to recognize and stop the behavior. Participants will view several interactive video clips which will depict sexual harassment within the school environment.

OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of the program, the student will:

  1. Define sexual harassment
  2. List three behaviors that may constitute sexual harassment
  3. Describe the effects of sexual harassment on the target
  4. Identify three personal strategies for dealing with sexual harassment

Toxic Relationships-Matters of Choice

Grades: 10-12

During this 45-minute presentation students will discuss aspects of healthy and unhealthy relationships. The warning signs of dating violence and how to make positive choices about dating and friendships will be explored. Students will participate in hands-on activities and will view video clips that depict several “toxic” scenarios.
