Summer Drug Prevention and Character Education Programs-K-12

Drug Preventions Programs:
Through these highly interactive programs, students will learn and see the effects that alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs have on the body. Using  a variety of visual aids and multimedia incorporated into these sessions, health educators help students to develop an understanding that drugs affect the body physically, emotion ally and socially. Discussions of peer pressure, refusal skills, and learning to make healthy choices, are an integral part of the program.
In addition, students will see how advertising and different forms of media can affect the decisions they make regarding the use of drugs. Exploration of the four “gateway” drugs (secondary level) marijuana, inhalants, alcohol, and nicotine will help students to think before taking chances that may compromise their health and safety. A real life simulation with the use of Fatal Vision goggles allow students to experience the powerful effect alcohol has on the body.

Character Education Programs:
These high-energy programs offer students the opportunity to explore the social phenomenon of “bullying”. Various types of bullying and consequences of bullying and intimidation are discussed throughout the program. Developing respect for other’s differences and strategies for appropiatately dealing with intimidating situations will be reviewed. This multimedia program features intimidating scenarios and students will have the opportunity to practice strategies to help them handle a threatening situation. For the secondary student, students will discuss aspects of healthy and unhealthy relationships. The warning signs of dating violence and how to make positive choices about dating and friendships will be explored. All students will participate in interactive activities such as role-plays with others.
