Mission Statement:
The =
mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to provide an =
intellectual, cultural, and social environment that maximizes student =
potential and enhances the educational efforts of the university. The =
purpose of Student Affairs is to develop programs and offer services =
that facilitate the student=E2=80=99s academic progress and social =
maturation; to assist in the empowerment of students through leadership =
development; to assess student needs; to assist students in =
understanding FGCU, its policies, procedures, and governance, and to =
encourage students to be responsibly involved; to provide programs which =
enhance the social and cultural environment through student activities =
and programs; to serve as an institutional resource with regard to =
information about students; to promote an environment appreciative of =
ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity; and to encourage a public =
spirit among students that works towards the common good of Florida Gulf =
Coast University, Southwest Florida, the state, and the world =
community.

through assistantships for the professional development of counseling =
students. Outreach programs offered a 4 year plan for academic =

and also grant aid. Testing Services provided tests for teacher =
certification, graduate admission, and career development, academic =
placement testing=C2=A0and professional certification testing. Graduate =
admission test review courses are also provided.

Data tracking is on-going, student and =
professional evaluations=C2=A0are completed, and N-L (Noel-Levitz) =

Outreach Programs =
successfully=C2=A0tracked programs as required by the grant. A 10k =
increase for CROP was gained. The Minority Initiative Committee had one =
meeting but has not awarded scholarships for students coming to FGCU. =
SSS student participation has increased from 170 to 250. CAPS provided =
internship opportunity for 5 graduate students with very positive =
ratings of student development and supervision provided. Testing =
Services reported a 29% increase in FTCE testing (teacher =
certification). Students=C2=A0served from=C2=A0Outreach Programs , =
Adaptive Services, and SI continue to increase. Forty two students from =
the Summer Leadership Program earned credit through CLEP =
testing.

Outreach Programs (SSS) has reported =
an improvement in student GPA and developed partnerships with Eagle Expo =
and FYA (First Year Advising). Graduate student professional development =
through CAPS graduate assistantships resulted in all students being =
rated at the 90-99th percentile with all students rating the CAPS site =
as a "very satisfactory" placement. Being an effective =
Internship placement has led CAPS to move forward with accreditation. =
Testing will evaluate space and staff resource needs as well as =
technology needs.

services for students. OAS offers a full range of services, including =

grant aid and an implemented plan for academic achievement. A =
specialized computer lab has been established. The TRIO SSS=C2=A0 grant =
has been renewed for 4 more years.

CAPS tested 4 students for special =
learning disabilities. School fairs are in process as well as =
consultations with guidance counselors, through OAS. Programs have =
increased (8th grade college days increased by 5 schools).=C2=A0The =
Office of Adaptive Services (OAS)=C2=A0has increased the number of =
students receiving services from 240 to 298 (24% increase).SSS has =
increased service sessions for students and served an increase of 170 to =
250 students (47% increase). The number of computers in the lab have =
been increased and a resource library has been established =
(SSS).

CAPS is exploring expanding testing =
services offered to include ADHD assessment. Concerns for the OAS budget =
are significant with the increase of students out pacing enrollment =
growth (24%). More outreach is taking place with area schools and =
adaptive equipment was upgraded in OAS. SSS has increased resources in =
terms of computers and a resources available to students. The SSS =
granted was renewed.

On-going services for personal and =
career counseling support the development of students.=C2=A0 Career =
Development Services are on-going and varied in order to meet the career =
development needs of students. The AR will include data from the College =
Central Network for the first time. Student Health Services =
(SHS)=C2=A0are provided for all FGCU students with expanded service =
hours. On-going data tracking will determine the attainment of these =
goals at the end of the year. Student Evaluations will be reported in =
the annual report.

significant increases noted. On-site surveys were conducted and =

SHS reported a total of 9,646 student =
appointments, an 18% increase. SHS processed over=C2=A06500 immunization =
records, which is required for admission. CAPS and Career Services made =
to all S&W classes (50 classes with over 1250 students). CDS =
recorded 750 students and 150 alumni users of College Central Network. =
CDS added PT=C2=A0and Law job fairs with 375 new students served. CAPS =
had a new high of 3,152 session hours (a 27% increase) and 264 career =
counseling session (a 20 % increase). There were 710 online screening =
surveys filled out from the CAPS website. Satisfaction data from student =
surveys indicated that student clients benefit from their counseling =
experience (e.g., 93% agreed that their work with a counselor had a =
positive effect on their campus experience, 95% felt comfortable and =
would use CAPS again, 91% agreed that they developed a better =
understanding of themselves, 56% agreed that their counseling made it =
possible for them to continue at FGCU).

Tracking data for services indicates =
that demand is exceeding enrollment growth. This=C2=A0supports the need =
for resources to grow at least at a level of enrollment growth. The =
increase in online screening=C2=A0supports the great use of such a =
service=C2=A0and review of marketing. CAPS will pursue accreditation for =
the counseling center. The success of the career development =
intervention with FTIC students needs to be continued and supported. The =
success of College Central Network is noted and will be =
continued.

Recreation Services has increased the =
number of intramural programs (5 to 7) as well as the number of fitness =
programs and Outdoor adventure programs. Participation in intramurals =
went from 2000 to 6500. Visits to the Rec Center increased by 10,000 =
(50,000) representing a=C2=A025% increase. An Advisory Council was =
formed with 14 members from the University Community. A new sorority was =
established this year. A consultant has been hired to assist in the =
development of IFC. Student Activities increased clubs from 90 to 120 =
and programs from 10 to 40. Seven leadership and development training =
sessions were completed this semester.

diversified student body through OOP, OIS, and ISSO services and =

1) DOSA departments without secretary/program assistants will =
request USPS positions. This includes Adaptive Services, Multicultural =
Services, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). CAPS will =
need a secretary/ receptionist in order to pursue accreditation (IACS) =
since student workers cannot be utilized in a confidential service area. =
Student Activities and Campus Recreation also need secretarial support, =
but attempts to find funding through A&S fees should be approached =
first since these areas are so heavily supported by such fees.
2) Appropriate increases in expense budget should be made for all =
departments. A review of the expense budgets will need to be made across =
the Division.
3) OPS budgets should be adjusted commensurate with increased =
participation or service demand for those units which rely on OPS to =
deliver services, e.g, Adaptive Services, =
CAPS.
