OPIP and OCI staff along with the = Provost and President of FGCU attended the SACS-COC Annual Meeting in = Atlanta in December where the final review of FGCU's response was acted = upon by the COC.

SACS-COC voted to reaffirm the = university's accreditation at its December 6, 2005 = meeting.

The reaffirmation decision confirms = our belief that we have successfully implemented a systematic and = recursive system of setting goals, assessing goals, and using the = results to improve programs, services and student learning for the = advancement of the university's mission in line with the goals of the = university's strategic plan. The process is being continued this = year.

What=C2=A0actions have been taken to attain this = goal?

Notice was sent out in October for units to review and update = assessment plans. Units were also requested to report on progress on = implementation of assessment plans in their mid-year reports.

LRPIEC held a meeting of its full body in October and appointed a = steering committee and a working group to develop a supplement to the = strategic plan for the development of regional centers. The working = group has met four times to develop the plan's initial draft. The draft = was subsequently reviewed through a University Forum and a workshop for = the UBOT.=C2=A0

The first academic program review for the B.S. in Legal Studies = under the enhanced process is progressing according to schedule. Others = will go into self-study later this year, including the general education = program.

Progress on the annual report cycle is proceeding.=C2=A0Mid-year = reports were in January as a prelude to the completion of annual report = by April.

=C2=A0

LRPIEC will receive a progress report on the updating and further = implementation of the unit assessment plans when it meets=C2=A0in = January.

The PRT is in the process of reviewing its first programs.

OPIP is tracking completion of assessment plan updates and the = mid-year reports.=C2=A0

OPIP is now preparing for the review of annual reports and budget = requests that will be brought before LRPIEC in May before review by the = President's Executive Group in mid-May and then approval by the UBOT at = it June 2006 meeting.

Review of assessment plans occurred at LRPIEC's January = 2006=C2=A0meeting.

Submission of program reviews to the BOG will occur in June = 2006.

What program or service specific assessment occurred in the = current academic year?

The first programs are currently going = through the process. The Program Review Team of the Faculty Senate has = approved selection of a consultant for the B.S. Legal Studies program = and a charge and process guidelines have been reviewed by the Team as = well. The review was conducted in March 2006 and shared with the dean = and department for response.

How were the results of the assessment used to improve = programs or services?

The review provided a series of recommendations to enhance the = program, including:

the addition of an upper division legal writing course; the use of = ABA-recognized exams as assessment instruments; assessing the = effectiveness of existing articulation agreements; tracking the success = of students in gaining admission to law school; and seeking ABA = accreditation of the program when it becomes available for online = programs.

Unit Contribution to President's Performance = Measures

Please review the President's Performance Measures for = 2005-2006. Did your unit contribute to any specific performance goals = for the President? (If so, please indicate whether the measure = set was attained and to what degree.)

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)-OPIP carried out the = second administration of NSSE. While the raw scores were very similar to = those obtained in the 2003 administration, NSSE failed to reproduce the = adjusted benchmark index scores necessary to determine appropriate = comparisons with the national sample of public comprehensive = institutions.=C2=A0

Regional Centers at Naples, Charlotte, and Cape Coral will continue = implementation of plans to expand in programming and visibility and = facilities.

PIP led a major institutional planning exercise to chart a course = of development for off-campus satellite center at the three location = mentioned above and in Hendry County. This plan was adopted by the BOT = at its April 18, 2006 meeting and is a supplement to the university = strategic plan.

SACS Reaffirmation in December 2005. PIP together with = OCI=C2=A0coordinated the response to the visiting committee report which = led to successful reaffirmation by SACS Commission on Colleges.

Fulfillment of Action Plans as reported to SACS in response to SACS = recommendations.

Development and implementation of unit assessment plans with = appropriate metrics and progress on them reported annually in unit = annual reports. Units revised and updated their assessment plans during = fall 2005. In March, results were included in unit annual reports = submitted to LRPIEC for review.
