Florida Gulf Coast University's Step Ahead Program is a summer program designed to better prepare students for a successful academic life. The program's mission is to offer support and retention mechanisms, which are core values of the University.

Incoming first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who do not meet the state's remediation requirements for mathematics may be required to enroll in the program. Students will be considered conditionally admitted and allowed to complete coursework during the Summer Session B term, which will prepare them for college level work. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible for full admission to Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall semester.

Success in the Step Ahead program includes meeting all of the following requirements:

  • Completing the CPT (College Placement Test) in Math with a score of 72 or higher at the end of MA 101 Math Workshop;
  • Earning a grade of “Satisfactory” in MA 101 Math Workshop course;
  • Earning a grade of “C” or higher in ENC 1101 Composition I;
  • Completing all activities with the Center for Academic Achievement at a satisfactory level.
