FGCU Presented With Minority Business Enterprises Award
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University was presented an award by the Office of Supplier Diversity at the annual Matchmaker Conference in Orlando. Jetta Glover, FGCU Purchasing Coordinator, accepted the award on behalf of the University. This is the first time FGCU has received the recognition.
This award was given to FGCU for having achieved and exceeded its Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) goals for fiscal year 1999-2000. The University's goal was established at $1.6 million dollars and the University actually did $5.3 million dollars with minority businesses in the Construction, Architect & Engineers, Commodities, and Contractual Services industries.
These dollars were mainly achieved in the construction industry. Jack Fenwick, Director of Facilities Planning and his staff, should be commended for a job well done. They worked diligently with the Construction Management Teams on the FGCU campus to insure that minority businesses were being used on campus projects.
The following companies participated: Ajax Building Corporation, Brown & Root Building Company, Centex Rooney Construction, Dooley & Mac Construction, and Kraft Construction. These were the actual construction companies who solicited and utilized minority sub-contractors.
