FGCU Renaissance Academy Offers Summer Programs on Marco Island
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy welcomes friends and new faces to its College3 summer curriculum at the Marco Island Yacht and Sailing Club. The introductory program will cover topics on film, music and writing.
The first Marco Island program is a showing and discussion of a film documentary about Hephzibah Menuhin, the famous concert pianist and sister of Yehudi Menuhin, the world-renowned violinist on Tuesday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Back by popular demand, FGCU Dean of Graduate Studies Jack Crocker revives “Mama Don’t Allow No Rock and Roll.” It demonstrates how each generation writes and accepts its own songs and the economic, historical and cultural forces that have shaped them. It will be held on Friday, June 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The third program to be offered at Marco Island, “Writing Your Personal Memoirs,” is a hands-on workshop that explores why and how you should write your personal memoirs. Led by Marco Island resident Wade Keller, it is offered in two workshops on Friday, July 13 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
FGCU created the Renaissance Academy on the premise that learning should never stop and that keeping the mind intellectually, creatively and culturally active enhances the quality of life. FGCU, an accredited comprehensive public university created to address the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and dedicated to providing a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities, offers the Renaissance Academy as part of the University’s commitment to serving the region.
As an introductory program, the Marco Island courses are offered at a special rate of $25 per meeting session for Academy members and non-members alike. Lunch will follow the class and is included in the fee. Space is limited and early registration is advised. Participants may register up to and including the first day of class, space permitting.
