Public Schools Enrichment Partnership Honors High Academic Achievers in Southwest Florida
FORT MYERS, FL - The Public Schools Enrichment Partnership Scholars’ Club at Florida Gulf Coast University will host the last of three recognition banquets for 2001 honoring local students in Charlotte, Collier and Lee counties at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 25 at Victoria Estates in Port Charlotte.
Keynote speaker for the event is Cornelius “Pat” Cacho, retired World Bank economic management specialist, education advocate and resident of Naples. Cacho serves on many boards and advisory committees, including the FGCU Foundation; Cleveland Clinic, Florida; and The Community Foundation of Collier County. He has also been appointed to several ad hoc committees for the Collier County School District.
At Friday’s event, the PSEP Scholars’ Club will recognize students from Charlotte High School and Port Charlotte High School. PCH’s Naomi Laguerre and Priscilla Okonkwo will receive recognition for the “Outstanding Leadership” and the “Founders’ Scholarship” awards.
PSEP is a community supported and directed partnership between primary and secondary public schools in Southwest Florida and FGCU. PSEP is charged with creating and supporting attainment of a peer culture of academic success among at-risk students, grades K-12, through innovative implementation of supplemental curriculum and extracurricular school activities. The PSEP Scholars’ Club challenges students to excel academically, and rewards and publicly recognizes student achievements.
FGCU is an accredited comprehensive public university created to address the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and dedicated to providing a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities. PSEP headquarters are in the FGCU College of Education and there are 46 Scholars’ Club chapters in Southwest Florida.
