Swiss Minister of Education Buschor to Visit FGCU, Speak with Press

Minister of Education for the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, Ernst Buschor is coming to Florida Gulf Coast University and will speak with the media about the dynamic future of the FGCU Swiss Teachers Summer Institute during a press conference at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 at Stoneybrook Country Club on Corkscrew Road, east of I-75 Exit 19, in the main dining room of the clubhouse.

Minister Buschor will meet with FGCU President William C. Merwin on Thursday, Aug. 2, visit the 60 teachers currently at the Institute, and review progress of the program. Switzerland considers him the most influential man in regards to education. He is known for his progressive views.

Minister Buschor will be joined by Christian Aerberli, head of innovation and development at the Ministry of Education; Dr. Willi Walser, vice president of the international company Holcim Group Support Ltd., one of the cosponsors of the Institute; Dr. Larry Byrnes, dean of the FGCU College of Education; and Dr. Victoria Dimidjian, FGCU coordinator of the STSI 2001. Anton Schrafl, head of the Spenderverein Foundation, another cosponsor of the Institute, will arrive on Aug. 8.
