Florida Gulf Coast University September Gallery Opening Etchings and Sculptures from Catalonia
FORT MYERS, FL - Internationally known sculptor-printmaker Manel Marzo-Mart is showing his etchings and sculptures at the FGCU Library Art Gallery as part of the celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month. An Opening Reception is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2001. Marzo-Mart will speak informally about his work at 2:30 p.m. His works are on display September 23 through October 21 sponsored by the Spanish Club, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the FGCU Foundation.
The FGCU Library Art Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays. All events in the Gallery are open free of charge to the public.
Marzo-Mart was born in Manresa, Spain and studied drawing and painting at the Vilajosana Academy. He was awarded the prestigious Juan March Foundation scholarship to study for two years in Paris with J. Friedlander, the great master of European etching. His work has been exhibited in Europe, the Far East, and Latin America.
A member of the ART VIU group in Spain, Marzo-Mart created lino and woodcuts for posters and catalogues, set designs for the theater, and numerous etchings. He opened studios in Basle, Switzerland and in Barcelona, Spain where he has taught countless fine art students to perfect their printmaking skills. He has also taught courses and workshops on etching in Latin America. With a solid, prolific career in sculpture and graphic, his monumental sculptures adorn many European cities. He is currently working on several monumental sculpture projects in Europe.
