FGCU Perioperative Nursing Program Taking Applications Through Nov. 1
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University School of Nursing is accepting applications now through Thursday, Nov. 1 for the Master of Science in Perioperative Nursing (Nurse Anesthesia) for admission in fall 2002.
Perioperative nursing prepares graduates for the full scope of nurse anesthesia practice. The FGCU program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
Graduates are required to successfully complete the national certification examination developed by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (CCNA) in order to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). This 54-credit hour, 27-month, full-time program is offered through an innovative partnership between the FGCU School of Nursing, Norman R. Wolford School of Nurse Anesthesia, Naples Community Hospital Health Care System, and Collier Anesthesia, P.A.
The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) has projected a shortage of CRNAs through the year 2020. The projected number of CRNAs needed by the year 2010 is 35,000, a forty percent increase over those currently practicing. Florida is experiencing its highest vacancy rate for CRNAs since 1982.
The FGCU School of Nursing has a selective, competitive admission process. As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public.
