Marco Islanders to Benefit From FGCU Renaissance Academy Offerings
FORT MYERS, FL - Marco Islanders are invited to attend a kick-off luncheon for the Florida Gulf Coast University Renaissance Academy on Marco Island, at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at the Olde Marco Inn.
Guest speaker FGCU President William C. Merwin will provide an overview of FGCU, the new Florida governance system and its impact on the State University System, including information about FGCU’s Board of Trustees. There will be time for questions and answers.
The first course offerings on Marco Island presented by the Renaissance Academy are “The French Impressionists” from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, Nov. 9, 16 and 30; and “From Bach to Brubeck” from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Nov. 13, 27 and Dec. 4, 11.
Joanne Smith, Professor Emerita from the University of Michigan School of Music and director of the Renaissance Academy’s Creative Arts Studio, will present the music course. Thomas E. Smith, who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and has served as president of the Art League of Marco, will teach the art course.
FGCU created the Renaissance Academy on the premise that learning should never stop and that keeping the mind intellectually, creatively and culturally active enhances the quality of life. The cost for the luncheon is $25 for Renaissance Academy members and $30 for others.
