Golfers Needed to Play With Pros Jacobsen and Beck at FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL - Golfers are invited to play and have lunch with PGA pros Peter Jacobsen and Chip Beck in a pro-am to help raise funds for student athletics at Florida Gulf Coast University 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at The Club at Grandezza. But interested participants need to hurry. The two pros are only playing nine holes each with two different foursomes.
Jacobsen, the comedian of the PGA Tour, is a 25-year veteran on the PGA Tour. He was a member of the 1985 and 1995 U.S. Ryder Cup teams. He has six Tour victories to date: 1980 Buick-Goodwrench Open, 1984 Colonial National Invitation, Sammy Davis, Jr.-Greater Hartford Open, 1990 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and 1995 back-to-back wins in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and the Buick Invitational. Before the FGCU Pro-Am, Jacobsen will be competing in the Franklin Templeton Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club in North Naples.
Like Jacobsen, Chip Beck is known for his enthusiasm and positive attitude. He initially made his mark on the PGA Tour in 1988, recording his first two wins at the Los Angeles Open and the USF&G Classic. Beck maintained his excellent playing record, winning the 1990 Buick Open. However, it is not a PGA Tour victory that made Beck a legend in golf. In the third round at the Las Vegas Invitational in 1991, Beck recorded the second 59 in PGA Tour history and forever etched his name into the golf record books. Beck added his fourth victory in 1992 at the Freeport-McMoran Golf Classic. He followed with a stellar 1993 in which he finished second at the Masters and earned a Ryder Cup berth, the third of his career.
"We are very excited that two former Ryder Cup members are taking the time to help our fundraising efforts," said FGCU Athletics Director Carl McAloose. "Both Peter and Chip are known for excellent demeanor, so it should be a great deal of fun for those that would like to participate. The two foursomes can have a great day of golf with two outstanding personalities while at the same time helping the FGCU athletics department."
Golfer Paul Azinger has committed to do the same type of event in December and a second professional is slated to join him.
